Skinner Opus 793 (1930) started its life at the Second Church of Christ, Scientist in Hartford, CT. A wonderful 38-stop instrument with a delicate sound, it was discovered by Harvard Memorial Church after an exhaustive search for an organ that would complement their recently installed Fisk organ.
In 2007 Foley-Baker was awarded the contract to remove, recondition, and install Opus 793 in its new home. Each component was rebuilt from the ground up, while taking special care to preserve what made this instrument special. The organ was re-engineered to fit into its new chambers for maximum sonic effect.
Special thanks to A. Thompson Allen Company, the organ’s original curators, and Richard S. Houghten, who handled console and relay reconditioning.
